Prior to joining DSC, I had no exercise routine. 

It had been six years since starting a new job that drastically increased my commute, and I was still using my increased time in the car as an excuse to not prioritize my health.

After giving birth to my youngest and nursing for well over 2 years, my body didn’t feel like mine anymore. I had my second child 8 years after my first, and I struggled with how differently my older body responded postpartum. I was not someone that struggled with weight previously, and then I didn’t recognize myself, especially in photos. 

Mentally, I was overwhelmed. No one in my life was getting 100% (work, my family and friends, me), there just wasn’t the space. I was feeling enormous guilt, stress and exhaustion. 

My main goal when joining DSC was reclaiming myself and my body and establishing a new self-care routine.

Due to the pandemic, I was fortunate to be working from home and benefiting from not sitting in a car for 3 hours, but I was less active than ever. My job that had me on my feet quite often, had changed to one that required sitting 100% of the time. 

Once the summer ended, I knew I had to make a change before the cold weather set in. Even though I certainly hoped to lose weight, my main motivation was to carve out time for myself and have a reason to get out of the house.

I was most hesitant to join because we were in the middle of a pandemic, and I didn’t want to put myself, my family or additional community members at risk. I did my research in advance on DSC’s COVID plans and I felt comfortable that they were taking things seriously and making sure folks were able to exercise safely. 

Once arriving on my first day I felt instantly comfortable. Safety was prioritized and the community embraced the measures that were put in place, including masks and physical distancing.

I was excited for my first class, and of course a little nervous. I was assigned a coach to walk me through each exercise and provide modifications as needed. They were so accommodating and attentive that I never felt embarrassed or out of place.

Overall, my experience with DSC has been so positive and fun! With COVID restrictions, getting to know people and the community is more difficult, but I never feel judged, even if I’m doing the easiest modification or getting corrected by the coaches. The workouts are challenging and creative, especially given the COVID restrictions in place!

Since joining DSC, I have lost over 20lbs!

All my clothes fit and look better. 

But more than that, I feel confident, healthy, and happy!

I’m getting stronger every day and I’m extremely proud that I’ve lost weight in a sustainable way and that I’m showing my kids that you can prioritize healthy eating and exercise without sacrificing the foods you love. 

The coaches at DSC are wonderful, and they have truly created such a welcoming and inclusive environment. They’re all great at leading workouts and providing encouragement and individual instruction when needed. There are usually at least 3-4 coaches available during each class, so you could never feel alone or ignored. If you have a question or concern, they are extremely accessible and happy to help.

DSC has been an easy, welcome addition to my life that kept me sane through our COVID winter.

No matter how difficult a workout is, by the time I’m making the walk back to my car, I feel great! I leave feeling refreshed, strong, and happy I made the decision to take 45 minutes for me! I never thought I’d want to go to the gym every day, but here we are!
