Small Wins = Big Results

Reaching your fitness goals is no easy task.

In fact, the odds of success are stacked against you right out of the gate.

Research shows that more than half of people starting an exercise program will drop out in the first 6 months.

But, why?

It turns out, this has much to do with not only our support system, but our mindset.

You see, for most of us, this is not the first time we've undertaken a fitness journey.

We usually start with a goal.

"I want to lose 50lbs"

"I want to run a marathon"

"I want to add 100lbs to my deadlift"

It's easy to get caught up in these lofty, sometimes overwhelming goals and start acting too big.

We start trying to do too much.

We completely overhaul our diet and exercise. We go from working out 0 days per week to 5.

When we don't have success right out of the gate, maybe we have a few set-backs and we get discouraged. We get easily disappointed and these feelings begin to snowball.

There goes the gym membership and there goes the nutritional changes -- I quit!

I have good news though. Those days are behind us.

Just like set-backs can snowball, so can small wins. This is known as the progress principle and something we are going to use to our advantage.

So, you want to lose 50lbs. Where do you start?

Instead of focusing solely on the long-term goal, start by focusing on the small wins that will allow you to reach that goal.

You see, something really special happens when you have a small win.

These small wins make us start to feel great and energized.

They accumulate and that set-back, defeated mindset begins to shift.

Not only do you begin to see that change and results are possible but momentum starts to roll!

Think about some small wins that align with your fitness goals.

We hear them all the time from our members. These are the same members who make substantial progress over the long-term.

We hear things like:

  • "I made it to the gym 3 times this week!"
  • "I held my plank for the entire :30!"
  • "I did my first push-up from the floor!"
  • "I added 10lbs to my squat today!"

These victories may seem small and trivial but they add up and once they start happening they don't stop.

Kathleen, our Women's Group Member who lost over 50lbs talks about how small wins made all the difference, below.

Your confidence begins to grow, you start to see that your hard work is paying off and that lofty goal is possible!

That is the key to this whole thing. You start to believe that all of this effort is working and you are on your way to reaching your fitness goals.

This does not only span the fitness world and can be applied to any goal.

In fact, studies have found these small wins to be the key to success for many businesses and corporations.

Imagine, the long-term effects of small, daily wins over time.

You will look back 6 months from now and reap the rewards of the accumulation of consistent victories leading to a stronger, healthier, fitter, more confident you! :)
