I can look in a mirror now and feel confident about how I look
At Dynamic Strength and Conditioning, our responsibility as coaches is to ensure that every member feels a deep sense of belonging.
As the Women's Group Coach, I have the privilege with working with some of the hardest working and most dedicated people I have ever met.
Here is one of their stories...
Meet Barbara
Before I joined DSC, I had tried a couple gyms in the area, with group training classes. I enjoyed the workouts, but just couldn't motivate myself to go to the next level. I also tried one on one training with a good friend, who is also a certified fitness trainer. I just couldn't get myself to go to the next level and commit to working out the way I should have been.
I had friends who were already members at DSC. I would watch their videos which were posted on social media. I would think to myself "I wish I could do those kind of workouts. They look like so much fun. I'll never be able to be as fit as they are." Last July, I finally had had enough of being overweight and out of shape. The desire to feel better about myself was greater than my fear.
I decided to sign up for the Women's group and see how it went.
My first workout at DSC was a tough one! But I made it through!
The other women in my group were at all different levels of fitness. That made me comfortable right away! I knew after that first class that I had found the place for me and that any doubts I had previously felt were gone. I was ready to start my journey toward health and fitness. In September of 2015, I moved to the Adult Group Training class.
I have been at DSC since August of 2015. I'm there 3 days a week (sometimes 4). With a combination of diet and exercise, I've lost 30 pounds. I feel healthier and stronger than I have in years. I've stopped taking a couple of medications because I no longer need them.
I can look in a mirror now and feel confident about how I look. I look forward to my workouts and seeing my DSC family. That's how far I've come; my group training friends are my family!
My advice for any new members would be to JOIN NOW! I could have never imagined a year ago that I would feel this way about a gym or working out. I'm signed up to do a Spartan Sprint race in November, which is something I would have only dreamed about doing a year ago.
Now I'm doing it, with confidence! Thank you to Matt, Renee, Kurtis, and Chris for guiding me on this journey. I can't wait to see what the future holds!
