Functional Movement Screen

Lower back pain while golfing? Continually pulling a hamstring playing soccer? Tweaked your back on your trail run? These could all be the result of asymmetries, weaknesses, or imbalances in your fundamental movement patterns.

The FMS provides a standardized approach to assessing fundamental movement, identifying limitations and asymmetries, and developing individualized corrective exercise programs. The philosophy behind the FMS is rooted in the concept that, in order to maximize performance, the whole body must be functioning properly. When the body is considered as a chain of individual elements, it’s reasonable that a weak link weakens the entire chain. Ignoring a weak link increases the potential for disaster, and strengthening the wrong links will not improve the integrity of the chain. The FMS provides the means to identify and resolve any weak links that may be jeopardizing the body and its healthy motion.

Physical preparedness is a vital part of training that many people fail to consider. It’s no wonder then that thousands of people are sidelined each year by stress fractures and other preventable injuries. Whether you’re training for a marathon or just getting in shape, taking on a physical challenge requires a great deal of commitment, research, and resilience. And there’s nothing like an injury to cause a setback and diminish morale. Even if you eat the perfect foods and have the perfect training program, failing to address your physical preparedness will leave you vulnerable to injuries that could stop you in your tracks.

  • Testing — You will perform a series of 7 fundamental movement patterns
  • Evaluation — You will be scored for your performance of each motion
  • Analysis / Planning — The results will be analyzed and a series of corrective exercises will be recommended based on your scores.
  • Monitoring — After 4 weeks of performing the corrective exercises we will re-test and re-assess.
